Sorry that I missed some days. I will try to go back and enter them soon.
I got a phone call at 2:57 this morning from the NICU saying that they suspected necrotizing enterocolitis. They said they were contacting the peds surgeons to evaluate her. By the time I arrived around 3:20, they were getting ready for her to move to Bay 1 and had already put her on a ventilator. She is now receiving 4 different antibiotics. They put a tube in to drain the gases and it also drained stool, meaning she has a perforated bowel. She will likely need surgery in the next few hours.
This is not at all what we expected after several good days in a row. Last night when we left the hospital, we were talking about her moving to an isolette (a step down in her level of care) and now we're talking about a colostomy bag and surgery. Please pray.
As a result of Madelyn's infection, she lost several centimeters of small intestine. She looked SO much better after her two surgeries.
