Surgery Update

(This Renae writing for Mary and hoping to get this all right).  Madelyn went in to surgery around 1pm this afternoon.  Before surgery the doctors said things were really "minute to minute."  During surgery they had to resect over half of Maddie's small intestine due to infection.  There may be more more infection and the colon may also have infection, but we will likely not know more until Tuesday.  On Tuesday the pediatric surgeon will go back in and look to see if there is more/less infection or if more intestine needs to be removed.  Removing more intestine would be a VERY SERIOUS issue and would be life-threatening.  Maddie is a fighter, she is feisty and we are praying she can pull through.  The road is long.  We appreciate all of the phone calls, emails, texts, and the many hugs we are receiving today. The doctor said to have hope as now we are "hour to hour." Maddie is on a oscillating vent and they are hoping to put her on a regular vent sometime tonight. She is expected to blow up like a balloon due to all the fluids they have given her but hopefully she will start putting out urine soon. Please continue to pray for Maddie.
